The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences (FAMS) was established in Albaha University in 1426H in response to the needs of the community of the specialized cadres in Applied Medical Sciences. The Faculty relies on the latest academic standards based on the scientific method and the development of developmental and analytical approaches and Psychomotor skills, and not just acquiring and retrieving specific information through lectures, panel discussions, scientific teaching, practical training, and developmental research to cope with medical developments and the pace of economic development. The Faculty has five study programs offered by five academic departments: Laboratory Medicine Department, Dental Health Department, Optometry Department and Community Health Sciences Department (public health). Although, Optometry program was stopped from accepting new students and has now been under activation.

INTRODUCTION

The Public Health Department focuses on educating professionals who are capable of promoting health, preventing disease, and protecting communities through evidence-based practices. It plays a vital role in advancing population health through education, research, and policy engagement. The Bachelor of Public Health program trains students to analyze and address the various environmental, social, and psychological factors that impact public health. Graduates are well-equipped to work in areas such as health education, epidemiology, and disease prevention, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of individual and community well-being.

Graduation History:
The program celebrated its first graduating cohort in 2011. To date, it has successfully graduated 15 cohorts of students

Mission

Providing competent public health specialists focusing on education, research, and community services.

Goals

  • Goal 1: Implement a competent public health program that meets the needs of the community and the recent international standards.
  • Goal 2: Prepare competent specialists and lifelong learners for the public health workforce.
  • Goal 3: Encourage and motivate students and public health professionals to contribute to research and scientific conferences nationally and internationally.
  • Goal 4: Equip the graduates with the knowledge and skills that enable them to implement community service programs.

  • K1: Recognize how human health is affected by environmental, social, economic, behavioral, biological, and political determinants.
  • K2: Identify the concepts, values, and roles of public health from its history and philosophy on a local, regional, and global level.

  • S1: Analyze different public health plans and interventions accurately by applying a problem-solving method.
