The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences (FAMS) was established in Albaha University in 1426H in response to the needs of the community of the specialized cadres in Applied Medical Sciences. The Faculty relies on the latest academic standards based on the scientific method and the development of developmental and analytical approaches and Psychomotor skills, and not just acquiring and retrieving specific information through lectures, panel discussions, scientific teaching, practical training, and developmental research to cope with medical developments and the pace of economic development. The Faculty has five study programs offered by five academic departments: Laboratory Medicine Department, Dental Health Department, Nursing Department, Optometry Department and Community Health Sciences Department (public health). Although, Optometry program was stopped from accepting new students and has now been under activation.

In this scientific institute, we do not only deliver modern medical sciences, but also teach the ways and means of its further development. Here, we care about providing the right tools of learning that ensure the optimum level of quality in performance. Vice-Deanship for Academic Affairs

About

 

The Vice-Deanship for Academic Affairs throughout its three main units seeks to supervise the educational process on all academic programs in order to achieve the faculty’s vision, mission, and aims. It has also an interest in providing proper and healthy educational environment that has an ability of achieving the quality of learning outcomes throughout managing students’ affairs, solving students’ problems, and supervising the practical clinical sessions in the faculty’s labs and clinics. This Vice-Deanship consists of three units as following:

  • Administration and Enrollment Unit

This unit works on preparing program studying schedules, final exams schedules, students’ enrollment, follow-up with students' study plans, and managing students educational process.

  • Students Affairs Unit

This unit focuses on solving students’ academic and non-academic issues, proposing and conducting students’ activities and events to achieve appropriate environment for creativity and superiority.

  • Labs and Clinics Unit

This unit supervises the educational process in the faculty’s labs and clinics throughout ensuring the application of modules practical cognitive skills according to quality and safety criteria in the faculty’s labs and clinics.

Tasks

 

  • Supervising implementation of regulations and rules of curriculums and examinations of all academic levels.

  • Supervising preparation of timetables and resolving any foreseen problems.

  • Supervising process of student subject registration on the timetables.

  • Supervising preparation of end of semester examination timetables.

  • Supervising collection of statistical data regarding all students from all departments.

  • Supervising updating academic plans in the faculty in line with scientific progress and the needs of the job market.

  • Proposing and preparing updated admission policies for course entry at the faculty and transfers between departments/courses.

  • Supervising transfers to the faculty from within and outside the University.

  • Supervising requests of withdrawal from subjects and/or semesters from students.

  • Supervising implementation of guidelines for temporary exclusion of students. 

  • Supervising re-enrolment of students and coordinating with the student affairs committee and the deanship of admissions and registration.

  • Supervising over academic guidance for students and resolving problems related to/affecting academic achievement.

  • Supervising preparation of graduate lists at the faculty and following up on the issuance of graduation documents in coordination with the deanship of admissions and registration.

The Vice-Deanship for Quality and Development throughout its three main units seeks to spread the quality enlightenment, certifies fulfillment of academic quality accreditation criteria to ensure effectiveness of quality performance on all running academic programs in order to achieve the faculty’s vision, mission, and aims. This Vice-Deanship consists of three units as following:

  • Quality and Accreditation Unit

This unit seeks to spread the quality enlightenment, implement and follow up the academic accreditation procedures, prepare performance level and beneficiaries satisfaction reports, and propose and implement improvement plans.  

  • Training Unit

This unit looks for conducting training programs and workshops for all academic and non-academic staff. It has also a main role on supervising and following-up the internship training for all students who are enrolled in the faculty.

  • Postgraduate Programs Unit

This unit focuses on preparing and designing postgraduate programs, supervising, implementing, and improving those programs to achieve the faculty’s aims.

Tasks

 

  • Supervising fulfillment of academic accreditation requirements including programs and courses specifications, annual reports, self-assessment reports, and all other requirements.

  • Follow-up the implementation of the faculty’s improvement plans and preparing periodicity reports.

  • Contribution with academic departments in preparing quality improvement plans in the faculty.

  • Proposing appropriate plans of internal auditing for approved quality standards to ensure continuous improvement in the performance of the academic departments.

  • Coordinating the external reviewing for those applied programs for accreditations.

  • Determining training needs and workshops for all academic and non-academic staff.

  • Supervising clinical training for students in the internship and practical professional courses. 

  • Reviewing and improving the rules and regulations of students’ internship in the faculty.

  • Improving the quality of using electronic interactive communications.

Department of Laboratory Medicine

Introduction

 

The Laboratory Medicine Department at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences in Albaha University was established in 1426 H to fulfil the community needs of the Laboratory medicine specialists. They are essential for the provision of health care to patients and the investigation of diseases and toxin and their causes. Therefore, the department offers the bachelor’s program in laboratory medicine to keep pace with the health and economic development and the requirement of modern era.

Creating an appropriate learning environment for graduating highly qualified and motivated laboratory medical specialists who are able to provide health care services and adapt to work in any changing environment.

-The mission of the program is to prepare graduates to become competent leaders in successful careers in a diverse society making a positive impact on health as Medical Laboratory specialists. These professionals translate the medical laboratory Sciences into education and life style practices that can enhance growth, and improve health.

Objectives

 

  • the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for becoming a professional medical laboratory scientist. Having completed the degree program, students should have acquired the following knowledge and skills:

  • Be proficient in performing the full range of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as haematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular, and other emerging diagnostics.
  • Be able to participate in the development and evaluation of test systems and interpretive algorithms, hold diverse responsibilities in areas of analysis and clinical decision-making, regulatory compliance with applicable regulations, education, and quality assurance/performance improvement wherever laboratory testing is researched, developed or performed.
  • Possess basic knowledge, skills, and relevant experiences in consultative interactions with members of the healthcare team, external relations, customer service and patient education; financial, operations, marketing, and human resource management; information management, and; research design/practice sufficient to evaluate published studies as an informed consumer.
  • Be proficient in maintaining necessary operations for the general functions of the clinical laboratory, including specimen collection.

Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine

Overview

 

The Laboratory Medicine program covers all the sciences related to diagnostic and research analyses which assist in diagnosing and discovering the causes of diseases. It also contributes in developing the quality of diagnostic methods for most of disorders and how to treat them.

The program consists of five academic years (including the year of internship). The first year focuses on developing English language skills as well as developing the knowledge of students in general medical subjects such as human biology, medical physics and health education. The second’s year develops cognitive and practical skills through basic medical science courses such as medical ethics, medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Students in advanced years are provided with advanced knowledge, science, practical and clinical application through specialized courses such as clinical chemistry, hematology, and microbiology.

Objectives

The Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Albaha University was established in 2006 to fulfill the needs of community from Nursing Specialists. The Nursing Department aims to prepare a generation of scientifically and practically qualified nurses to work to meet the growing needs of nursing services at the local and international levels. Students should be part of the medical team; they will promote their involvements in the nursing profession and contribute to the development and expansion of their awareness about treatment.

Program

 

The Nursing program consists of five years of study (including 12 months of internship training). In the first year, students will undertake courses focusing on developing their English language skills besides the general courses in the medical field such as human biology, medical physics, and health education. In the second year, students will study basic medical courses such as medical ethics, medical terminology, and general anatomy and physiology. While third and fourth year of the programme, student will embark on core and specific Nursing courses such as Fundament of Nursing, Medical & Surgical Nursing, Pediatric and Child Health Nursing, Obstetrical and Gynecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing and Clinical Nursing. The fifth year consists of 12 months of clinical training internship

Introduction

 

The Department of Community Health is one of the earliest departments has been established within the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Al-Baha University since 2005. The department offers BSc programme in Community Health – Public Health Path, which aims; to graduate qualified national specialists in Public Health field, to serve the local community, to advances the community health awareness and to contribute in the development of the healthcare and medical services systems.

  • All faculty members have to announced and hang on their schedules on their office doors. The schedules have included information about the members academic counselling and advising hours, teaching hours, administration hours, and clinical hours.

  • All students are allocated to academic advisors.

  • The department provides at least 2 hours official consultation time every week for all students.

  • Departmental Academic Counseling and Advising Committee is available to assist, facilitate, evaluate, and monitor students’ progress in the curriculum.

  • Students’ periodic reports for guidance are saved to follow the academic performance of students.

Bachelor of Community Health – Public Health Path

Overview

 

The Community Health Department at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences in Al-Baha University was established in 2006 to fulfil the community needs from the Public Health specialists. The department aims to graduate qualified national specialists in Public Health field, to serve the local community, to advances the community health awareness and to contributes in the development of the healthcare and medical services systems.

Objectives

 

  • Graduate specialists in consistent with regional and excellent international standardization, and with noble Islamic and professional ethics.

  • Provide students with skills and knowledge tools that qualify them to pursue higher studies in the field of public health.

  • Contribute in developing public health sciences, and the department to become an educational platform at both local and global level in field of public health.

  • Contribute in advancing local health awareness and participate in promoting local public health.

  • Conduct public health research that serve local community.

    1. Understand theoretical knowledge and practical techniques and skills of Public Health.

    2. Raise critical awareness of current research relating to resolution of Public Health issues by using evidence-based dentistry

5.2. Conduct to inform community public health awareness programs based on client/ patients' needs in different Public Health settings.
