Faculty of Science and Arts in Qilwah

The Faculty of Sciences & Arts - Qilwah was founded in April 2012, under decree no. A/1196 by the Ministry of Higher Education. When inaugurated, the Faculty comprised of five departments: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English Language. Apart from these, there were also three branches: Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Computers & Information Technology which belong to the Faculty of Sciences & Arts - Almikhwah. The Faculty has been established in order to implement a number of principles in the district. These include providing equal opportunities, achieving justice between cities, providing training and learning opportunities for the people of Albaha region, and meeting the growing needs of graduates of the high school in the region.

Overview

The Department of Biology offers a course of study leading to the granting of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. The program is designed to be presented by the Faculty of Science and Arts at Albaha University in line with the study plan with the other corresponding faculties at Albaha University. The Bachelor of Science program in the neighborhood helps students to work in different fields and qualifies them to develop their scientific and practical skills. And prepares them to continue their higher studies and research in the various fields of life sciences.

The program consists of 133 credit units divided into eight levels (four years of study). The student enrolled in this program must successfully complete (133) credits according to the study plan.

Objectives

•    Scientific and academic leadership in biology. 
•    The development of specialized cadres in the field of biology contributes to the renaissance of Saudi Arabia and achieves vision 2030. 
•    Provide an environment for  education and continuous learning.
•    Preparing male/female students to continue postgraduate studies and research in the field of biology.
•    Providing male/female students with sufficient basic, technical and academic professional skills to enable them to work in different fields and bridging the gap between learning outcomes and the needs of the labor market. 
•    Contribute to scientific developments in Biological fields through scientific research and follow-up developments in biology.

Recall the basic principles and theories related to biological sciences and classify the living organisms on scientific bases

Recognize esthetical topics and broader implications of advanced scientific biological applications and their impact on the society and the environment

Know the methods, techniques and equipment used in the field of biological Sciences

Understand the taxonomic principals of living organisms. Recall parasitic and microbial pathogens prevention, control and diagnosis and explain different ways of immune response

Skills

S1

Explain the role of different sciences in the interpretation of biological processes in living organisms and evaluate the problems in the field of biological sciences and develops appropriate solutions by using different ways of scientific thinking and analysis

S2

Prepare microscopic preparation for living organisms correctly and also apply some modern techniques in molecular biology. Also formulate biological tested data and select the proper mechanism for their setting within a theoretical framework

S3

Predict sources of environmental pollution and the effects of those pollutants to living organisms including diseases associated with organs dysfunction of these organisms. In addition, analyze and evaluate issues influencing environmental, public health and ethical considerations

Work effectively in team work and also take initiative in seeking further information or resources required in carrying out responsibilities

Use communication technologies for communicates effectively orally and in writing

Use appropriate statistical and mathematical methods when studying problems in biology to collect, interpret and analyze the obtained information

Demonstrate good anatomy skills of some organisms, including plants and vertebrates. Also apply some modern techniques in microbiology and molecular biology

Examine and draw a precise drawing of plant and animal tissue structures. Also diagram the life cycle of some living organisms
