Department of Microbiology
About
The department of Medical Microbiology is one of the faculty of medicine basic medical Science departments. The discipline of microbiology is taught to medical students in three different but related paths:
The first path is the basic microbiology, which introduce the germs (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites) to the students starting from their taxonomy, habitat, growth factors, shapes, and general characteristics.
The second path is the clinical microbiology where the medical students are explored to the clinical side of the different microbiological diseases from different perspective including the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment.
The third path is the infection prevention & control where medical students learn the principles and skills required, that they should apply when they deal with patients in any healthcare settings to protect the patients and themselves from acquiring infection. The department is distinctive in teaching these important skills where many other medical faculties do not in their medical curriculum.
Scientific Research
The department staff are keen to help the medical students to conduct research and are involved in directing and supervising the students as part of their curriculum and during their final clinical years.
Clinical Involvement
The academic staff of the medical microbiology department are involved in clinical work in the university medical center and the affiliated hospitals in Al Baha area as consultants and specialists.
Community Involvement
The academic staff of the medical microbiology department are also involved in sharing the community advises towards the prevention of infectious diseases and help in increasing the awareness in that through the social media messages, disease related leaflets.
None curriculum activities
The academic staff of the medical microbiology department play a role in helping the students to organize international days of the common infectious diseases such as HIV, open tuberculosis, Hepatitis and other diseases.
