Speech of His Excellency the University President

Waqf has a role in achieving the goodness of the nation, as it is a continuous charity. Through Waqf, mosques and educational institutes were established, then comprehensive schools and then ancient universities, and through it, homes were built and alms were distributed to the poor and needy. Waqf has remained effective for hundreds of years and has remained a strong and stable system for managing wealth due to the ease of its application and the flexibility of the objectives from which it is launched and works to serve all segments of society. This system has remained closely linked to various aspects of social, economic and political life, in addition to its close connection to spiritual and moral aspects. Therefore, Islamic Waqf is one of the most important systems that have contributed to achieving the general objectives of Sharia because it preserves the five necessities. When the endowment becomes part of the culture and life of society and penetrates all aspects of life, it will undoubtedly enjoy creativity, innovation and renewal. When the endowment is a field for competition in good deeds and providing the needs of the segments of society, we will read endowment innovations that history will record with pride and honor. When we see the endower secure about the money he endowed and ensure its preservation and continuity, we will see new endowments that reduce the burdens on the state and serve society.
