Department of Biochemistry

Vision:

Distinction in Education, Research and Scholarship.

Towards Better Understanding of Life at the Molecular Level.

Mission

To educate students in the theory and practice of biochemistry and molecular biology.

To generate and disseminate new knowledge through research in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.

Department statement

Biochemistry is science devoted to help understanding the molecular mechanisms by which living organisms carry out their many functions. Precise understanding of mechanisms underlying both normal physiology and disease states is fundamental for rational approaches to medicine.  The department provides a rich educational environment to help students develop their creative potential and to prepare them for a successful future career in medicine and research. Instructional methods and study material through all courses undertaken by the department are selected to help developing independent creative thinking, as well as broad knowledge and technical skills. The faculty members at the department are dedicated to discover and transfer knowledge about the molecular basis of life through basic biomedical and cross-disciplinary research, teaching and training.

Members of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are dedicated to investigating the complex relationships and mechanisms that control biological processes.

Our research provides fundamental knowledge that enables advances in medicine and improvements in the quality of life.

Faculty train medical school students in molecular and cell sciences and support other biomedical science programs in the university.
